Across every colourway the panel recesses take the shoe's own dye, which is what a texture pressed into hide does, not what an opening onto a lining does. Treat the lattice as a look.

How much grip does the sole give? Plenty you can see. The outsole is black rubber cut with deep square lugs that run the full length of the shoe, the sort of tread that bites into a pavement and holds on a kerb or a gravel path.
