You turn the dial once at the first tee and the shoe closes around your foot in a second.
Half past seven, the practice green still holds last night's damp and the group ahead is lining up a putt. You step out of the car already changed, slide your foot in, and turn the small dial on the outside of the quarter. The cord draws the panels shut in one motion, evenly, without the knot you would be re-tying by the fourth hole.
The upper is a synthetic leather, smooth and low sheen, punched with fields of fine round holes across the toe, the vamp and the quarters. Under it sits a thick white midsole and a one piece rubber outsole covered in small moulded triangles. Nothing screws in and nothing can be lost: the traction is cast into the rubber itself. Six colourways in the X556 range, white with red, white with yellow, black, grey, taupe and navy.
