FAQ

Questions before checkout

What is the tote made of?
The body is crocheted from natural straw fiber in alternating solid rows and airy openwork bands. The shoulder straps and the tie cord at the rim are slim brown leather with stitched edges, and the interior pocket is cream cotton canvas with a zip. Together they keep the bag light, structured and easy to live with through warm months.
How does the top close?
The top is open for quick access, with a slim leather cord at the rim that ties it closed over your things. For anything you want held tight, the interior canvas pocket zips shut and snaps in near the rim, so keys, phone and cards stay covered even when the top is open.
What are the straps like?
Two long, slim straps in brown leather with stitched edges run over the shoulder and are sewn down into the straw body, so the load spreads along the bag instead of pulling at one point. The drop is long enough to carry the tote over a jacket or a summer dress while leaving both hands free.
What is the difference between the two styles?
The Khaki Commuter stands taller and more upright, a shape that suits daily carrying and transit. The Khaki Large Shoulder Tote is wider and flares out like a basket, with extra room across the top for markets and beach days. Both share the same khaki straw, leather straps, tie cord and interior pocket.
How big is the tote?
It is a genuinely large tote, around 45 cm across, the kind that takes a towel, a book, a bottle and a light layer at the same time. Worn on the shoulder it sits between your underarm and hip. Despite the size, the straw construction keeps the empty bag light, so the weight you feel is what you packed.
Where do small items like keys and a phone go?
They go in the cream canvas pocket inside. It zips shut, snaps in near the rim on small leather tabs, and keeps keys, phone and cards riding at the top of the bag instead of sinking under towels and produce. When you need them, you reach the pocket first, not the bottom of the tote.
Will things slip through the open weave?
The openwork bands are part of the crochet pattern, so there are small gaps in the body. Larger items like towels, clothing, produce or a book sit well above them, while anything small or valuable belongs in the zip canvas pocket. Packed that way, nothing works its way through the weave.
Can it handle the beach and the market?
Yes, that is what it is for. Sand shakes back out of the straw body more easily than it leaves a fabric bag, the open top loads and unloads fast at a market stall, and the leather straps keep it on your shoulder while your hands carry the rest. At the end of the day, turn it over and let the sand fall out.
