The morning is already warm, the walk to the market is short, and these flats ask nothing of you. No buckle, no zip, just a step in and a soft give as the interlaced vamp flexes over your toes. The open sides let the air move, and the peep at the front lets a painted toenail show when you cross your feet at the cafe table.
The upper is a woven artificial leather, cut into flat straps and threaded into a basket pattern over the instep, with a scooped d'Orsay opening on each side and a closed heel that keeps the shoe on your foot. Underneath sits a thin flat rubber sole between zero and three centimetres, so you feel the ground without feeling the pavement.
Best for: Warm weather walking, holiday packing and casual days when you want a finished look without a heel or a strap to buckle.
Most flats are a single moulded piece; here the vamp is built from separate woven straps, which is why it breathes at the sides and bends with the foot instead of pressing flat against it. The closed heel and d'Orsay cut give it the line of a shoe while the open weave keeps it as easy as a sandal.
