Why It Works

Funnels usually fail on the stem, not the cone. A stem sized for a wine bottle simply will not enter a 15 ml perfume neck, so the liquid ends up going in from an inch above and half of it lands on the dresser. Shrinking the stem to a few millimetres and cutting the tip on a slant solves both problems at once: it enters the neck, and the angled cut lets air escape past it while the liquid runs in, which is what stops a small bottle from burping the contents back at you.
