The offcut of melamine is 4 mm too wide and the saw is out in the van.
You hook the jaw over the edge of the board, feel the two bearings settle one on each face, and pull. The tool tracks the edge on its own because the wheels hold it square, and the line comes off in one long pass rather than in the ragged nibbles a knife leaves in a coated face. Two minutes on a workbench, no dust, no extension lead, no ear defenders.
The head is a blue anodised jaw with a roller bearing on the upper arm and a second one on a three bolt holder below it, so the gap between them can be set to the board. Above that is a curved grip that the maker names as polyethylene, on a body it calls an aluminium alloy matrix. It cotes the whole tool at 16 cm on the handle axis, 13 cm across the jaw and 490 g, and packs it in a printed box of 23 by 15.7 by 6.6 cm.
Key Benefits
- Rolls rather than drags Two bearings work the material between them, so the tool tracks the edge instead of wandering the way a hand held knife does.
- Three materials named by the maker Aluminium composite panel, melamine board and wood veneer panel, which covers most of what gets trimmed on a fitting job.
- A stated thickness window 0.012 to 0.1 inch, roughly 0.3 to 2.5 mm. Knowing the ceiling before you buy is worth more than a vague promise.
- Adjustable holder The lower bearing sits on a three bolt plate, so the gap is set rather than fixed at the factory.
- No power and no dust 490 g in the hand, nothing to plug in, and no chips thrown across a finished room.
Best for: the kitchen fitter, shopfitter or careful DIY worker trimming coated sheet and veneer on site, where a circular saw is more machine than the job needs.
Why It Works
Coated sheet chips when a blade is dragged across the decorative face, which is why the trade cuts it from the back or scores it first. Putting the cutting work between two rolling bearings changes the geometry: the wheels turn as the tool moves, so the load stays perpendicular and the coated face is held rather than scraped. That is also why the thickness window is narrow. Past 0.1 inch the material stops yielding to a rolled cut and you are back to a saw. Note that the supplier written sheet describes this tool as a straight edge scraper. Its own labelled panels and its own photographs both show bearing rollers, so we have gone with the panels.
Quick Product Facts: hand cutter with two bearing rollers; lower roller on a three bolt adjustable holder; handle named by the maker as polyethylene; body named by the maker as aluminium alloy; maker gives 16 cm by 13 cm and 490 g; maker gives a working range of 0.012 to 0.1 inch, about 0.3 to 2.5 mm; maker names aluminium composite panel, melamine board and wood veneer panel; printed retail box of 23 x 15.7 x 6.6 cm; one cutter per pack.
How It Fits Your Routine
Try it on an offcut first. Set the gap on the three bolt holder, take one slow pass, and look at both faces. That single test tells you more about how hard to pull and how fast to move than any instruction sheet, and it costs you a scrap of board.
On the job it earns its place in the bag rather than the van. It is the tool you reach for when the cut is a trim rather than a size change: easing a panel into a run of units, taking a millimetre off a veneer edge, squaring a composite offcut before it goes behind a splashback.
Storage is a wipe and a drawer. Keep the bearings clean of resin and swarf so they still spin freely, check the three bolts are tight before a long session, and do not leave it in a damp toolbox where the rollers can seize.
FAQ
How thick a board will it take? The maker gives 0.012 to 0.1 inch, about 0.3 to 2.5 mm. Beyond that it is a saw job, and forcing a thicker board through will damage the rollers rather than cut it.
Does it have a blade I need to replace? The cutting is done by the two bearing rollers, not by a removable blade, and the maker lists no spares in the pack. Keep them clean and spinning.
How do I use it safely? Clamp the board, keep your free hand behind the jaw, and treat the rollers as you would any cutting edge. Worked that way it takes a clean trim off coated sheet with no dust and no power lead.
What comes in the box? One cutter, in its printed box.
