3D Printed Spiral Twist Cone Fidget and Desk Ornament

It sits on the desk looking solid, then one push turns the whole cone into a spring.

Set it down beside the keyboard and it reads as a small sculpted cone, 6.6 cm tall, its surface cut by a single helix that runs unbroken from the base to the tip. Then you press the top and twist. The helix opens, the cone stretches into a loose spiral, and when you let go it drops back into a cone with a small tap of plastic on plastic.

The body is printed in PLA, laid down layer by layer, so the print lines catch the light along every turn of the spiral. The filament shifts colour along its length, which is why one cone reads green at the tip and blue at the foot while another runs gold at the crown and red at the base. Turn it over and the underside opens into a rounded flower shaped void where the print begins.
