You lift the probe to a live board and the hot joint lights up on screen before your fingers ever get near it.
The Tooltop ET14S puts a thermal camera and a true-RMS multimeter in one red rubber armored body. On the 2.8 inch color screen you watch a 240 by 240 infrared image build in near real time, about three frames a second, while the digital meter reads out beside it. A cold solder joint, an overloaded resistor, an HVAC line that is not carrying, all of it reads as a bright patch of color instead of a value you have to chase.
Flip it over and a small macro lens slides left and right so tiny surface mount parts come into focus. The infrared window covers roughly 20 below zero to 550 degrees Celsius. Three ports across the bottom, fused 10A max, COM, and V Ohm, sit under a 600V CAT II rating, and the NCV strip along the top senses live voltage without touching a wire.
Key Benefits
- See the heat, then read it. The 240 by 240 thermal image and the true-RMS meter share one screen, so you find the hot spot and confirm the number in the same glance.
- 10000 count true-RMS. AC and DC voltage, resistance, diode, capacitance, continuity, frequency and current all measure to a 10000 count resolution.
- Sliding macro lens. The infrared lens moves side to side to sharpen close work on circuit boards and connectors.
- Non contact voltage. The NCV bar checks a socket or a wire for live voltage before you probe it.
- Built in lithium cell. A 3.7V 18650 lithium battery sits inside, and auto power off holds the charge between jobs.
- Armored for the bench. The thick red rubber frame takes a knock on a workbench or in a tool bag.
Best for: electricians, HVAC and appliance technicians, board level repair hobbyists, and anyone who wants a thermal picture and a meter reading from a single tool.
Why It Works
Most faults show themselves as heat first. Pairing an infrared camera that reads about 20 below zero to 550 degrees Celsius with a true-RMS meter lets you walk a panel, find the joint that runs warm, then set the probes on it and read the actual voltage or resistance without switching tools. The color palette maps temperature to color, so a couple of degrees between two components stands out on the screen.
Quick Product Facts: 2.8 inch color LCD; thermal resolution 240 by 240; infrared range about 20 below zero to 550 degrees Celsius; refresh about 3 frames per second; 10000 count true-RMS meter; NCV non contact voltage; sliding macro lens; fused 10A max and 600V CAT II inputs; built in 3.7V 18650 lithium battery; FC and CE marked. The box holds the meter, the 18650 cell, a set of test leads, a user manual and a zip carrying case.
How It Fits Your Routine
On a service call you scan the breaker panel or the outdoor unit with the camera first, let the warm component announce itself, then switch to the meter face to take the reading you need for the paperwork.
At the bench you slide the macro lens across, hold the board under it, and trace which chip is pulling current it should not, while the true-RMS side confirms the rail voltage.
Between jobs it powers itself down on the timer and drops back into the zip case with the leads, so nothing rattles loose in the bag.
FAQ
Does it need a separate battery pack? No. A 3.7V 18650 lithium cell is built in and comes in the box.
What temperature range does the camera cover? Roughly 20 below zero to 550 degrees Celsius, shown as a 240 by 240 color thermal image.
Can it measure both AC and DC? Yes. It is a true-RMS meter reading AC and DC voltage, resistance, diode, capacitance, continuity, frequency and current to 10000 counts.
How close can it focus on small parts? The macro lens slides left and right so surface mount components come into focus for board level work.
