You hook the jaw over the edge of the board, feel the two bearings settle one on each face, and pull. Why It Works

Coated sheet chips when a blade is dragged across the decorative face, which is why the trade cuts it from the back or scores it first. Putting the cutting work between two rolling bearings changes the geometry: the wheels turn as the tool moves, so the load stays perpendicular and the coated face is held rather than scraped. That is also why the thickness window is narrow. Past 0.1 inch the material stops yielding to a rolled cut and you are back to a saw.
