FAQ
Questions before checkout
What is the tote made of?
Natural raffia, a plant fiber, hand-woven into a structured tote with a reinforced base. Because it is worked by hand rather than pressed by machine, the texture shifts slightly from bag to bag, so the one you carry is a little different from every other. There is no synthetic coating over it, which is why the fiber softens and ages naturally with use.
How many styles can I choose from?
There are nine woven styles in all. You can pick a plain natural weave for an easy everyday carry, a floral or textured embroidered weave for more detail, a striped or checkered panel for contrast, or a version finished with braided raffia, a soft cord handle or a leather shoulder strap. Each style is woven by hand, so it keeps the natural variation that machine-made bags lack.
How much does it hold?
Enough for a water bottle, wallet, phone and sunglasses, with room to spare for a folded towel or a market haul. The body is roomy without reading as bulky, so it carries a full day of things and still looks relaxed on the shoulder. It suits the beach in the morning and the market in the afternoon without feeling overstuffed in either.
Will it keep its shape when full?
Yes. The weave is tight across the base and sides, so the tote holds its form under weight and springs back when you empty it. Loaded with a towel or produce it stays structured instead of slumping, and standing empty it keeps a clean shape rather than folding flat. That structure is part of why it works for the market as well as the beach.
Do the handles fit over the shoulder?
Yes. The handles sit at shoulder length and rest flat on the shoulder without digging in, so you can keep the bag on while your hands stay free. Depending on the style you choose, the handles are woven raffia, a braided raffia loop, a soft cord or a leather strap, but each one is sized to carry comfortably on the shoulder rather than only in the hand.
How do I clean and care for it?
Spot clean with a damp cloth or follow the included care label, and avoid soaking the natural fiber. Raffia is a plant fiber, so it does not like being submerged or left wet for long. A quick wipe handles sand, dust and the odd mark, and then the bag dries on its own. Cared for this way the fiber softens with use rather than wearing out.
Is it good for the beach?
Yes. The open weave across the body lets sand and damp air pass through instead of trapping them, so it shakes out easily after a beach day. The structured base takes the weight of a towel and sunscreen, and the natural fiber is built for warm weather, with no coating to soften in the sun or dye to bleed in the heat. It moves from the sand to dinner without missing a beat.
Will each bag look exactly like the photo?
The style you choose will match, but because every tote is woven by hand the surface carries small natural variations in texture and tone. Two bags of the same style are alike in shape and pattern yet never perfectly identical, which is part of the appeal of a hand-woven piece. If you want a uniform, machine-made finish this is not that, and most owners see the small differences as a feature.
